too, especially learning the Hawaiian music…
I started
playing the guitar when I was in high school and since then, I’ve
been in a couple of groups. I’ve played at the Royal Hawaiian
Hotel for Tauck Tours for about 5 years and also played for many parties
too. Presently, I am in a group and we play Hawaiian music occasionally
at many parties As for my full time job, I am a city bus driver and
I love meeting and talking with many different people from around
the world…
My goal
is to share and please people with the Hawaiian music that I have
learned which I am very proud of my ancestors…

Harpist
Rebecca Hilary Smith
| I
live in Honolulu and my profession is entirely devoted to making and
teaching music.
I
began studying the harp in 1982 with Sally Maxwell at the University
of Oregon, and loved it so much that I switched majors to have harp
as my principle instrument. After graduating, I purchased my Thormahlen
lever harp and became familiar with an ever widening range of music
as I discovered what both it and my pedal harp could do.
I've
been playing at weddings for over 20 years and have found that they
are like snowflakes: beautiful, transient, and unique. No two are
ever the same. I enjoy adding to the celebration of marriage with
the most magical instrument I know, the harp. |

| The
Salvi Pedal Harp: (This harp may be selected for an additional
charge of $200)
This instrument, the type of harp seen in the symphony, was made of
maple and spruce in Italy 20 years ago. If you get up close you can
see it has thousands of moving parts. Because of the pedals, this
instrument can play all types of different music and modulate quickly
from one key to another. Its simple yet elegant appearance makes it
especially appropriate for more formal occasions.
The
Thormahlen Lever Harp:
With 10 fewer strings than the pedal harp, this is nonetheless an
amazingly flexible instrument musically. The ease of carrying and
sturdy construction make the Thormahlen especially suitable for outdoor
locations, while its smaller stature lends itself to more intimate
settings or places where space is at a premium. While there are some
limits repertoire-wise compared to the pedal harp, it can still play
a large number of pop, Broadway, and classical numbers. Celtic music
is especially fitting on this harp.
Before
the ceremony, I will help set the mood, creating an atmosphere of
calm and anticipation, perhaps with some songs that are personally
meaningful to you. |
