If you would like to write your own letter, simply delete the prewritten text below, and replace it with your own words.
Intro Salutation: Please choose a salutation... Dear Attention ATTN. Committee Members, Opening: I support the nomination to designate the structure located at 4500 Los Feliz Blvd. (currently occupied by The Derby nightclub and Louise's Trattoria) as a Historic Cultural Monument with the City of Los Angeles. The building meets the legal criteria for designation in at least four important respects. First, it is the last of the original and prominent Brown Derby restaurants from Hollywood's Golden Age still intact. As such, it has a profound connection to the social and cultural history of Hollywood and the City of Los Angeles. Second, the structure was owned by film pioneer and early Los Angeles resident Cecil B. DeMille. This, combined with the countless celebrities and political figures which frequented the site, establishes a strong identity with historic persons. Third, from its days as a drive-in or "Car Cafe," the building possesses one of the last (if not the very last) drive-in "car canopies" still existing in the City of Los Angeles. The car canopy is an an important architectural element reflecting the City's car culture and the automobile's critical role in the history, culture and growth of Los Angeles. Fourth, the building retains its original wooden dome of unique "Lamella" construction and engineering. Furthermore, the dome is the earliest example of Lamella construction that still exists in the City and is important to architectural history of Los Angeles. The Atlantic Richfield Building, The Pan Pacific Auditorium, The Ambassador, the other three Brown Derby Restaurants .... all gone. Now, with the Derby nomination, the Commission has a chance to save an important piece of Hollywood History. Please approve the nomination to make the Derby a Landmark and preserve it for future generations to appreciate, visit, study and enjoy. Exit Salutation: (complimentary) Please choose a salutation...
